The Craft

Most names are spoken. Few are forged.

Root & Seal is an atelier of inheritance. We research the foundation of a lineage and draft a singular crest from it — an emblem that belongs to one family and to no other. It is not a logo, and it is not a surname badge sold to anyone who shares your spelling. It is a mark drawn from your own record.

What we research

Names, origins, occupations, migrations, and the turns of phrase a family already repeats at its own table. From that record we draw a short brief of symbols worth carrying — a charge for origin, a tincture for character, a motto in the family's own words.

How it is made

The approved drawing is redrawn as a stitch file by hand, so every fill and letterform reads cleanly at the size it will actually be worn. It is then embroidered in gold-toned, silver-toned or brass metallic-effect thread onto tour-grade synthetic leather.
